We have all been there – at least those of us have that have needed to go on a diet for one reason or another.
The ‘there’ referred to above is that pit of despair that we can sink into when, in spite of all of our best dieting efforts, we look at the scales and find that our weight has actually gone up a little not down.
Now in theory, many reference books will tell you that this can’t happen. If you are adhering rigidly to a personalized weight loss plan that has been custom designed for you, there should theoretically be no way that your weight can go anywhere other than downwards.
However, we don’t live in an ideal world and nor is your body a machine whose function can always be totally predicted to 100% accuracy.
Firstly, many dieters may have the odd slip or two over a few days.
There might be many reasons why this happens but if it does, there is no need to get irredeemably depressed and give up on your diet. There are techniques for dealing with it and it’s usually ‘no big deal’ but those few slips can occasionally have an impact on weight loss progress.
The second reason relates to the human body which, for reasons that aren’t always easy to explain, will occasionally do something odd like suddenly putting on a very small amount of weight when logically it shouldn’t have done so. These increases are usually small and extremely short-lived.
There is no point trying to analyse the reasons in-depth because you may never find them. Yet again though it is critically important not to see it as a justification for abandoning your diet.
Just make sure you keep focused on your end goal and you will get there.
